Dear Ms. Whipp

My name is Allison. I was born in New York but my parents are immigrants from Ecuador. From a very young age I loved the idea of building and creating things. I found out my dad had a degree in Electrical Engineering in Ecuador which made me interested in that field. I went to High School for Engineering. In those four years I took a passion in engineering more specifically in Electrical Engineering.

Growing up I was placed in advanced classes considering me smart. I would always get honor rolls. School didn’t come hard to me. Transitioning from high school to college was probably the biggest obstacle I had, especially when trying to balance school and work. I stopped going to school for a while. During this my sister was a major help. She had dropped out as well and was trying to get back, so we motivated each other. I feel proud that I decided to come back and improve my education. The person I want you to see me as is a hardworking student. I try to be organized and stretch myself a lot until my limit so I keep busy. Even if it’s hard I come back until I get it done.

Engineering is probably one of the best well paid jobs. I grew up not having much and I would love to be financially stable. To depend on no one and provide for my parents after they gave me everything they could. When I graduate, I visualize myself in a big company where I don’t work for long and have time to relax. I don’t really have a major engineering challenge. I feel like that is more for future me but I would always try to find an easy way to get something done. With my degree I have credibility for people to hear me out.

“Writing for Engineers” means to me a way an engineer can express their information in a simple way. I believe it is very important for engineers to know how to write so they can express their thoughts to other people. I believe that anyone can be interested in engineering writing.

I believe this course will help me learn different ways to communicate in certain situations. Engineers are always communicating to different people. Finding the correct way to address something in a certain situation will be beneficial. Writing never came easy to me. I grew up learning spanish and english. Which made me good at both but not great.

Overall, I am just an engineer trying to find her calling like anyone else. I try not to limit myself and open new doors. I believe every year I improve myself and love the person I become. Although there is stuff I would have loved to change I feel those things made me grow as a person, engineer and writer.

Sincerly,

Allison
